Bluejay Men's Soccer Breaks Into Win Column, Defeating Denver 2-0

Omaha, Neb. -- Led by a goal and an assist from Matthew Reed in the final 10:08, Creighton Men's Soccer collected a 2-0 win over Denver as the Bluejays celebrated the 13th Annual Socctoberfest with the victory on Friday, September 5.
The win pushed Creighton to 1-2-2 on the season, while Denver fell to 2-3-0.
After battling Tulsa to a scoreless draw in the home opener on Monday, September 1, Creighton held the 2024 College Cup Denver Pioneers to just seven shots in the match as the contest marched into the 80th minute locked in a 0-0 fight.
Controlling possession for most of the match, the Bluejays took advantage with a throw in from Ryusei Shimonishi to the head of Ayden Kokoszka and finally sent into the back of the net by Reed with 79:52 showing on the clock.
Just under nine minutes later, 88:19, Reed pushed the ball just into the 18-yard box, finding Miguel Arilla with a centering pass. The Spanish native found a small angle and struck with his left foot for his third goal of the season to give Creighton a 2-0 lead.
The Bluejays completed their second consecutive clean sheet, holding a 12-7 shot advantage and a 5-4 edge on corners.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Wednesday, September 10th as the Jays host Omaha in a true doubleheader. Creighton's women's team faces the Mavericks at 5:00 p.m., while the men's teams are scheduled to kick off at 7:45 p.m. The doubleheader is the first Kicks for a Cure battle in the fall. An ongoing spring tradition to help raise funds and awareness for cancer research come to the competition season for the first time in 2025.
