Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Men's Soccer head coach Johnny Torres announced the promotion of Mitch Kavanagh to assistant coach. Kavanagh has served as a technical director for the past two seasons.Â
Within his new role Kavanagh will be Creighton's recruiting coordinator. Fellow assistant coach Nico Luque will be responsibile for scouting and game planning, while Michael Gabb remains as the Bluejays goalkeeper coach and responsible for travel as well as community outreach.
"Since transitioning from volunteer assistant to technical director/assistant coach two years ago, Kavanagh has made a significant impact on our program through his tireless work ethic, attention to detail, dedication to student-athlete development, and commitment to the operational excellence of our day-to-day environment," said Torres. "His leadership and positive attitude behind the scenes have been instrumental in helping our group thrive on the field, in the classroom, and in our community. His contributions to our program have not gone unnoticed!"
"Creighton Men's Soccer is a special program, and I'm excited to continue supporting our players and staff as we pursue success on and off the field," said Kavanagh. "I look forward to building on Creighton's rich history and ensuring our standards of excellence are pursued every day."
"Mitch has aided and put our group first in many ways since 2018. This is one of many reasons why elevating him into this position was the right choice for our program," added Torres. "His vision, professionalism, understanding of the game, paired with his analytics work, and strong relationships in our community make him an ideal fit to lead our recruiting efforts as we continue to build a championship-caliber roster."
