Men’s Tennis Drops Spring Break Opener at Northwestern, 4-0

EVANSTON, Ill. – The Creighton men's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Northwestern on Sunday night during the Bluejays spring break opener in Evanston, Ill.
The Bluejays fell to 8-6 on the year with the loss, while the Wildcats improved to 13-4 overall with the victory.
Northwester jumped out to an early lead, capturing the doubles point with a pair of 6-3 victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles positions. CU's senior duo of Yuma Daijima and Kirtan Patel picked up the Jays lone win of the day, opening the contest with a 6-2 win on the No.2 doubles court, before the Wildcats rallied to steal the first point of the match.
NU continued their winning ways, securing straight set wins at the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles positions to clinch the 4-0 victory.
Vincent Yang picked up a 6-2, 6-2 win over Jack McMahon at the No. 6 single spot, before Carter Pate claimed a 6-3, 6-1 straight sets triumph over Patel on the top singles court to give the Wildcats a 3-0 edge. Cyrus Mahjoob followed with a 6-3, 6-3 match-clinching victory on the No. 2 singles court to complete the 4-0 win.
Creighton was down a set on the remaining three courts when the match was finished.
The Bluejays will continue their spring break east coast road trip on Tuesday, March 10 when they open BIG EAST play against Georgetown at 9 a.m. CT in the nation's capital.
