A New Era Takes the Field
|
Yesterday morning, we gathered on the sun-soaked corner of Florence and Cuming to celebrate a special moment years in the making: the dedication of the new Creighton Baseball Practice Field.
Standing alongside our coaches, student-athletes, community partners, and state and city leaders, I was reminded once again of what makes Creighton and the Omaha community such an incredible place. When we come together around a shared vision, we don't just build facilities — we build momentum.
Just one year ago, many of us stood on that same ground for a groundbreaking ceremony. Today, that parking lot has become a state-of-the-art training environment that will serve both Bluejay Baseball and the visiting NCAA Men's College World Series teams who travel to Omaha every June. As I said during the dedication, moments like this are a shared win for all of us. They honor our history, celebrate our present, and set the stage for a bold future — a future benefiting Creighton, the NCAA Men's College World Series, and the Omaha community.
This field is also one of the first major milestones of the Fly Together Project, a nearly $300 million investment in athletics, recreation, and the student experience. This initiative will transform how our students train, compete, learn, and build community — from a new 86,000-square-foot sports performance center recently named "The Bill", to upgraded facilities that support multiple programs and thousands of students each year.
The baseball practice field reflects that same commitment to excellence. Its design mimics the dimensions and orientation of Charles Schwab Field Omaha, giving our team — and every CWS program that trains here — the best possible preparation environment.
But beyond the turf, this field represents something deeper. In addition to being yet another investment in the MCWS that makes Omaha an unparalleled host city, it marks a new era for Creighton Baseball. It's a place where future Jays will refine their skills to compete at the highest level. A place where new memories will be made. It's also a place that honors the generations of student-athletes and coaches who built this program, including the unforgettable 1991 CWS run, which we're celebrating the 35th anniversary of this year.
Yesterday's dedication was a celebration. Today, it becomes a promise: that the best is yet to come.

There are also other major enhancements for the fans and student-athletes participating in the Men's College World Series. MECA has introduced a major upgrade to Charles Schwab Field Omaha, featuring five new LED displays inside and outside the stadium. Enhancements include two new outfield scoreboards (with the addition of a left-field board), ribbon panels along the second-level seating fascia for real-time stats and scores, and a double-sided exterior marquee at 10th and Cuming. A new A/V control room with upgraded cameras, replay systems, and switchers reflects a deliberate investment in elevating the championship experience for student-athletes and fans.
Completed last fall as part of a $6.5 million project, these improvements reinforce the stadium's status as a premier destination for college baseball. The upgraded displays debuted at Creighton's 2026 home opener and were featured during the 2026 Big Ten Baseball Tournament.

There is still time to purchase season tickets for our fall sports: volleyball and men's and women's soccer. Season tickets will be on sale until the first home game of each season, or in the case of volleyball, until they are sold out. Single-game tickets for each of these sports will go on sale on July 31.
Fans will notice facility improvements to both D.J. Sokol Arena and Morrison Stadium this Fall. D.J. Sokol Arena has received a new sound system that will greatly enhance the fan experience. And new state-of-the-art LED lights were installed at Morrison Stadium. This fall season will be extremely exciting, and we hope to see you there supporting these outstanding student-athletes!
The season ticket renewal window for men's and women's basketball closed on June 5. Over the next week, we will finalize renewal sales for those who just missed the deadline but fully intended to renew. After this renewal period, there is an opportunity for those who have purchased season tickets to upgrade their seats, followed by a new season ticket sales period.

- Season Ticket Upgrades: June 23 – July 10
- New Season Ticket Sales: July 13 – TBD

I want to thank all of you who have purchased season tickets. Season ticket sales represent a major percentage of our revenues, and stability in this area is extremely important to our success. We appreciate all of your support!

Trinity Shadd-Ceres will become the first student-athlete in Creighton history to compete in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships when she participates in the Long Jump tonight at 8:40 p.m. Central time. It will be streamed on ESPN+, with live results at https://www.rtspt.com/ncaa/d1outdoor26.
Shadd-Ceres, who transferred to Creighton from the University of Wisconsin as a volleyball student-athlete this spring, hadn't competed in any track meets since June 2024 after giving up the sport to pursue college volleyball. After the long layoff, she went on to become the BIG EAST champion in the long jump before placing 6th in the NCAA First Round, the jump that qualified her for the National Championships. What a remarkable story. Congrats and good luck to Trinity!

Creighton Athletics is entering a defining moment marked by progress, momentum, and a clear vision for the future. Milestones, like yesterday's baseball field dedication, reflect a broader commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience, while strengthening the university's connection to the Omaha community and elevating its national reputation. These efforts signal more than growth. They represent a coordinated investment in excellence, tradition, and long-term impact across athletic, academic, and personal development programs, as evidenced by strong enrollment numbers and facility investments from 24th to 17th Streets. These developments also reinforce a unifying message: Creighton is not only building for today but positioning itself to thrive well into the future.
Again, thanks for all of your support. And let's have a great summer!
