Volleyball Wins 11th Straight AVCA Team Academic Award

CU's 21 awards all-time lead all BIG EAST schools
OMAHA, Neb. -- The 2025 Creighton University volleyball team has been honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association as a recipient of the 2026 AVCA Team Academic Award.
Creighton's 21st overall recognition is its 11th straight season being honored. CU's 21 overall recognitions are tied for 18th-most in NCAA history, and lead all BIG EAST programs. The Bluejays previously were recognized in 1998, 1999, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
The award, initiated in the 1992-93 academic year, honors teams that displayed excellence in the classroom by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA. There were 227 Division I schools that qualified for the honor in 2025-26, including nine teams from the BIG EAST Conference. Creighton's 11 straight honors is tied with Providence and Seton Hall for the fourth-longest active streak in the BIG EAST, trailing only, DePaul (19), Villanova (16) and St. John's (13).
The Bluejay volleyball team had a GPA of 3.54 last fall and a 3.46 mark in the spring, and owns a 3.45 cumulative GPA. Thirteen different women were named to Creighton's Dean's List (3.50 GPA or better) at least one semester during the 2025-26 academic year, and four different women owned a perfect 4.00 GPA at least once last year.
Creighton earned a 14th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament last fall and finished the 2025 season with a 28-6 record. The Bluejays won their 12th straight regular-season BIG EAST title while also capturing the BIG EAST Tournament title for the 11th time in the past 12 seasons.
Creighton is one of 15 schools that finished last year in the AVCA Top 25 poll and received a AVCA Team Academic Award, a list that consisted of Arizona State, Baylor, Creighton, Indiana, Iowa State, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, SMU, Stanford, USC, Tennessee and Texas. Creighton, along with Nebraska and Stanford, are the nation's only programs to win an AVCA Team Academic Award and be ranked in the year-end AVCA Top 25 poll each of the past five seasons.
"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."
CU opens the 2026 season on Aug. 16 with an exhibition match vs. South Dakota and will open the regular-season in Sioux Falls, S.D., from Aug. 28-30 with nationally-televised matches against Purdue, Minnesota and USC.
