Tavares Takes Freshman and Offensive Player of the Week as First BIG EAST Honors of 2026 Announced

The Bluejay freshman burst on the scene with two goals and two assists in his opening matches. Tavares earned the start in the season opening contest on Thursday, August 20, delivering a goal and an assist in Creighton's 6-2 win over FIU. Three days later he notched the game-tying goal in the second half of the Bluejays' 1-1 draw with Drake on Sunday.
Tavares closed the opening weekend of his first season with the team lead in assists and points, while being tied for the team lead in goals.
The Bluejays return to action on Thursday, August 27 as Creighton will host San Francisco at 7:30 pm in Morrison Stadium.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week
Ivar Nå Aga, St. John's, Gr., D (Odda, Norway)
Nå Aga anchored a Red Storm back line that did not allow a shot on goal in Thursday's 5-0 road win over Loyola Maryland. The team captain also contributed offensively with an assist on St. John's fourth goal of the match.
BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week
Alex Yagudayev, Villanova, Jr., GK (Brooklyn, N.Y.)
Yagudayev turned away all four shots on goal he faced to lead Villanova to a 1-0 shutout victory over Temple in the season opener. The junior made several key stops to preserve the Wildcats' one-goal advantage and secure the clean sheet.
BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll
Londen Sears, Akron, Fr., MF/D (New Albany, Ohio)
Sears made an impact on both ends of the field in his collegiate debut, registering a goal and an assist in Akron's 3-0 shutout of Dayton. He scored the game-winning goal in the 11th minute, helped the Zips preserve the clean sheet and later assisted on Akron's final goal.
Mitchell Baker, Georgetown, Jr., F (Melbourne, Australia)
Baker contributed a goal and an assist as Georgetown went unbeaten at 1-0-1 against North Carolina and Rutgers. He scored the Hoyas' goal in Thursday's 1-1 draw with North Carolina before adding an assist in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Rutgers.
Charlie DeMarco, Georgetown, Jr., GK (New York, N.Y.)
DeMarco went 1-0-1 over 180 minutes in goal for the Hoyas, totaling eight saves while allowing two goals. He registered five saves in the 1-1 draw with North Carolina, with the lone goal coming from the penalty spot, before making three stops in the 2-1 win over Rutgers.
Tomiwa Adewumi, Marquette, Fr., F (Pittsburgh, Pa.)
Adewumi scored in each of his first two collegiate matches as Marquette posted a 1-0-1 opening week. He put the Golden Eagles ahead in the second half of a 2-2 draw with Oakland before netting the game-winning goal in Sunday's 2-0 victory over Saint Mary's.
Brage Birkelund Eie, St. John's, Fr., F (Oslo, Norway)
Birkelund Eie erupted for two goals and an assist in his collegiate debut, contributing to three goals in a 5-0 road win over Loyola Maryland. He scored the opening goal just 25 minutes into his career before adding his second tally in the second half.
