Volleyball's Ames Makes History with BIG EAST Offensive & Defensive Weekly Honors

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball's Ayden Ames has been named BIG EAST Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Bluejays to a pair of Top 25 wins to open the season. Ames is the first player in BIG EAST history, as well as Creighton Volleyball history, to be named both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the same week by the league office.
Ames hit .305 and averaged 1.92 kills, 1.17 blocks and 0.25 digs during her initial week as a Bluejay.
The junior from Prosper, Texas, had seven kills and set a Creighton record for most blocks in a debut with seven stuffs in Friday's 3-2 win vs. No. 9 Purdue.Â
The Preseason All-BIG EAST pick then led the Bluejays with eight kills, three blocks and .333 hitting in Saturday's contest vs. No. 14 Minnesota before closing her weekend with eight kills, four blocks and .400 hitting in a 3-1 triumph over No. 20 USC.
Ames' only previously weekly conference award came on Dec. 2, 2024, when she shared Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week recognition while enrolled at Texas.
Another Bluejay newcomer, freshman setter Rayna Christianson, made the league's weekly Honor Roll after averaging 3.60 assists, 0,90 digs and 0.20 blocks per set and a team-leading 0.50 aces per set.Â
Creighton (2-1) plays its first home matches of the regular-season this weekend, hosting Arizona (Friday, 6 pm), Pepperdine (Saturday, 3 pm) and Tulsa (Sunday, 3 pm) inside D.J. Sokol Arena.
