#14 Men's Soccer Opens BIG EAST Action with 3-0 Win Over Providence

Omaha, Neb. -- Opening BIG EAST with a bang, #14 Creighton Men's Soccer defeated Providence 3-0 on Friday, September 18 in Morrison Stadium. The win pushed the Bluejays to 7-0-2 on the season and 1-0-0 in BIG EAST action. Providence, meanwhile, fell to 4-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Just under 30 minutes into the match the first half was delayed by a lightning strike. Coming out of the break the Bluejays found a quick goal from fifth-year transfer Allan Juarez finished a series the saw freshman Carter Derksen and sophomore Ayden Kokoszka earn an assist in the 31st minute (30:02).
Creighton pushed its lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute (42:33) as a failed clear landed in front of senior Diego Ferruzzi, resulting in his first career goal.
The second half saw the Bluejays put the match away with a third goal in the 62nd minute (61:44). This time the scoring strike came from junior college transfer Angel Lopez, while junior Bautista Rossi and Juarez nabbed assists on the play.
Creighton closed the match with a 17-10 edge on shots and held a 7-4 advantage on corner kicks.
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Tuesday, September 22 in a road match at Denver with a 7:00 pm scheduled kickoff, the match can be followed on ESPN+.
