Shadd-Ceres and Dalton Earn BIG EAST Volleyball Honors

OMAHA, Neb. -- A pair of Creighton Volleyball newcomers were honored on Monday as Trinity Shadd-Ceres was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and Katie Dalton recognized as BIG EAST Setter of the Week. The plaudits come after Creighton went 2-1 at the Bluejay Invitational against a trio of teams with Top 45 RPI's last fall.
Shadd-Ceres led the BIG EAST in points (58.5) and kills (54) en route to Bluejay Invitational All-Tournament Team accolades. The junior from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada averaged 4.18 points, 3.86 kills, 2.50 digs and 0.43 blocks per set while hitting .289. Shadd-Ceres opened her weekend by recording a career-high in kills (29), digs (10) and hitting percentage (.420) to rally CU to a 3-2 win over Arizona. She had 11 kills in 12 swings during a fourth set win, then carried the Jays in the fifth set with six more kills in nine attacks. Her 29 kills tied a Bluejay Invitational record and were one shy of the D.J. Sokol Arena record. She followed that performance with 14 kills, seven digs and an ace in a 3-1 win over Pepperdine as she hit .333. Shadd-Ceres had 11 kills against unbeaten Tulsa on Sunday while establishing new career-highs in both digs (18) and blocks (4) for her second double-double in three days.
Dalton led the BIG EAST with 120 assists last week as she averaged 8.57 assists, 3.07 digs, 0.43 kills and 0.43 blocks per set. Dalton had a season-high with 46 assists and a career-high with 21 digs in Friday's 3-2 win over Arizona, going over 1,000 career assists in the process. The Parker, Colo., product then had 42 assists, 14 digs, three kills and three blocks in a 3-1 triumph over Pepperdine. She closed her weekend with 32 assists, eight digs and two kills in a five-set match against unbeaten Tulsa.
Rashanny Solano Smith from St. John's was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while Marquette's Luanna Markus was tabbed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.
Ranked 10th nationally in the Aug. 31 AVCA Top 25 poll, Creighton (4-2) travels to Houston, Texas, for the Rice Invitational II this weekend. The Bluejays meet Northern Iowa (Friday, 3 pm), No. 6Â Louisville (Saturday, 1 pm) and host Rice (Sunday, 2:30 pm).
