Jason Shockey begins his second season as an assistant coach at Creighton in 2007-08. Shockey coaches the Bluejay outfielders, hitters and will also be in charge of Creighton baseball camps.
Shockey's first season at Creighton was highly successful, as the Jays won their first Missouri Valley Conference Tournament Championship in school history. The team advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the eighth time in school history, and the Jays scored a season-high 21 runs in a regional victory over Albany.
The Jays slugged 101 doubles and 37 homers in 2007, but were also fundamentally sound at the plate, as the team set a school record with 93 sacrifice hits.
Under Shockey's tutelage, sophomore Darin Ruf had a breakout season at the plate. Ruf was named the Joe Carter MVC Player of the Year after leading the team in nine offensive categories including batting average (.374), RBIs (57), doubles (19), slugging percentage (.600), and hits (86).
The Shockey name might seem familiar to Creighton baseball fans as his younger brother, Colin, was the starting centerfielder for the Jays when they captured the Missouri Valley Conference title in 2005.
