PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Carrying an undefeated record into the final regatta of the season, the Women's Novice Eight crew finished their weekend at the Dad Vail Regatta in impressive fashion. The crew finished third at one of the most prestigious events in the sport.
"This is easily the biggest racing finish a Creighton crew has ever come home with," an excited Head Coach Dan Chipps stated. "For our girls to come in undefeated and finish as high as they did in this event sets a new precedent for Bluejay rowing."
The crew finished second in their heat to start the weekend off right on Friday with a time of 6:57.9. Purdue was the only team to edge the Jays in their first race of the weekend, by just over one second.
The Jays then rowed their way to a first-place finish in their semifinal race. CU finished an impressive seven seconds in front of UMass with a time of 7:01.6. The Jays also slipped by Villanova, Lehigh and Santa Barbara in the semis.
In the finals, the Jays rowed to an exciting third-place finish, only three-tenths of a second off the champion Purdue shell. St. Joseph's edged the Jays by one-tenth of a second, while CU's time of 6:52.3 brought home a bronze for the squad.
