After a scoreless first half, the Bluejays were able to convert the game's only score at 62:23. The play started with Peterson winning the ball in the middle of the pitch. He sent the ball to junior Michael Kraus who went wide with the ball and crossed it to freshman Jeff Thayer. Thayer headed the ball down to Peterson who was able to bang in the only tally of the match.
The Bluejay defense and goalkeeper Matt Allen kept the Zip offense off the board.
"Matt Allen was outstanding in goal in making the saves he needed to, while the defense held a talented attack to just a few quality scoring chances," said head coach Bob Warming after the match. "Overall I'm satisfied with how we performed in our first time out."
The CU victory sets up a rematch of its NCAA quarterfinal match last year in which the Jays saw their season end just one win shy of the College Cup. Clemson ended the Jays' magical run through the 2005 NCAA tournament with a 1-0 decision, scoring the only goal of the match with just 39 seconds remaining in regulation. Clemson defeated No. 17
