The Sooners collected all three runs off Bluejays' reliever Pat Venditte (2 right, 1 left) on four hits, as Venditte (1-1) was saddled with his first loss of the season after a 10-strikeout performance just three days before at Arkansas-Little Rock. OU left fielder Cory Williamson would collect the eventual game-winning hit as with one on and two out, Williamson hit an RBI triple to right center that scored first baseman Aaron Baker to give OU a 3-2 lead.
Venditte would replace CU right-hander David Merchant at the start of the inning as OU started with lead-off man Aljay Davis breaking him in with a single to left field. Joe Dunigan would then hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher to advance
Baker would end the day 1-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored, while Williamson ended 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Getting the hitting started on the day though would be the Bluejays. CU took an early 2-0 lead after scoring single runs in the top of the second and third off OU left-hander Joseph Hughes.
In the top of the second with two out and Andrew Small on second, senior second baseman Chad Ogden came through for the Jays with an RBI single through the left side scoring Small to make it 1-0. First baseman Darin Ruf would then add another big two-out hit, as he collected an RBI double in the third that scored Ross Sinclair from second as CU collected three hits in the two innings.
Ruf would finish the game 2-for-4 with an RBI, as he an Ogden, who went 1-for-3 would be the only Bluejays to collect RBI on the day.
After giving up three hits in the first three innings, Hughes would regain himself in the fourth as he went on to retire the next 11 CU batters. Hughes (2-1) would get credited with the win as he pitched 6.2 innings giving up just two runs on four hits with one strikeout.
OU would tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh off Jays reliever Scott Reese on a Dunigan double to right center to make 4-2, as CU just couldn't get the big hit to mount a rally.
Sooners' reliever Nich Conway would give up just one hit to the Bluejays in the seventh and eighth, before CU finally mounted a comeback in the top of the ninth. With OU closer Garrett Richards on the mound, the Jays would load up the bases for shortstop Ryan Urzendowski.
