Crew Defeats Drake in Women's Varsity-8

DES MOINES, Iowa. - The Creighton crew team wrapped up its fall season Saturday, defeating Drake as part of the Drake Duel, in Des Moines, Iowa. The Bluejays defeated the Bulldogs in the Varsity-8 race, labeled the most critical coming into the day.
In the race, Creighton defeated Drake by a tenth of a second, 7:02.6-7:02.7. On board for the Bluejays was coxwain, Susan Silverman. Other members of the team that competed in the Varsity 8 were, Dayna Miyashiro, Bree Rochford, Lisa Werner, Nicole Lindseth, Michelle Glow, Katherine Cameron, Courtney Hanson and Meg Blue.
In the Novice 8+ the Bluejays fell 7:42-8:04
In the Varsity 4A+ Creighton fell 7:43-8:09
In the Varsity 4B, which was a shortened course, the Bluejays lost in both of its attempts, 7:34-7:57 and 7:34-8:29.
In the Novice 4A+, Drake prevailed 8:03-8:08, as well as the Novice 4B+ in which it won 8:24-9:22
The last race of the day was the Novice 4C+, which Creighton finished in second, 9:17-10:08. Drake's second boat did not finish.
“I'm pleased with the athletes,” Creighton head coach Dan Chipps said. “They went out in non-optimal conditions and put on a performance that we can use to build on, going into our spring season.”
Creighton's crew team will return to action March 14th in Dallas, Texas, when the squad goes up against SMU.
