
Men's Basketball Tops Delta Devils, 82-58

OMAHA, Neb. -- Kenton Walker had 10 points and 10 rebounds off the bench as Creighton won its 10th straight home game, topping defending Southwestern Athletic Tournament champion Mississippi Valley State on Tuesday night by an 82-58 score before 15,748 fans at Qwest Center Omaha.
The Bluejays (4-2) wasted no time building a double-digit lead, taking an early 15-5 advantage. The Delta Devils (0-9) came right back though, scoring 11 straight to take their first lead at 16-15. Creighton's Booker Woodfox answered with his second three-pointer of the game to start an 8-0 Bluejay run that gave his team the lead for the remainder of the night.
The Bluejays would take a 46-33 lead into the halftime locker room, shooting 53.8 percent from the floor in the opening half. P'Allen Stinnett led CU with 11 points in 11 minutes off the bench, while Walker had eight points and six rebounds in the first half.
The lead hovered between 12 and 19 points for the first 10 minutes of the second half before the Jays broke it open. Consecutive three-pointers by Stinnett and Casey Harriman gave CU a 68-47 lead with 7:26 to play. A short time later a lay-in by Stinnett and another trey by Harriman capped a 7-0 spurt that extended the lead to 75-49. Creighton capped the scoring in the final minute with a three-pointer from crowd favorite Dustin Sitzmann.
Stinnett led CU with 18 points in 19 minutes off the bench, while Woodfox scored 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Walker had 10 points and 10 rebounds for his first career double-double. The Jays shot a season-best 50 percent from the field and outrebounded MVSU 36-34. CU also owned a 31-9 advantage in points off turnovers, repeatedly taking advantage of 26 Delta Devils turnovers.
MVSU was led by 22 points from Tashan Newsome, while Dwayne Harmason scored 12 points and hauled down 12 rebounds. Leading scorer Shannon Behling was limited to 10 points on 3-of-11 scoring. MVSU shot 40 percent (20-50) and hit 12-of-21 at the line (57.1 percent).
Creighton returns to action on Saturday with a 6 pm (Central) game at Saint Joseph's.
