“Our continued corporate partnership with Prairie Farms provides an important vehicle by which to honor our top student-athletes,” said Commissioner Elgin, who is in his 20th year with The Valley. “Our student-athletes are the league's best representatives, and we're happy to recognize Kristina (Voss) for her athletic and academic achievements.”
A center for the Bluejays, Voss, a junior from Ankeny, Iowa, averaged 11.5 points and 10.5 boards, as the Bluejays overcame a 12-point deficit to win at Indiana State (68-60 on Jan. 31) and rallied from an eight-point deficit at 24th-ranked Illinois State (75-71 on Feb. 2).
Voss, who has a 3.09 cumulative grade-point average in elementary education, collected 13 points and went 7-for-7 from the free-throw line to go along with a career-best 15 rebounds at Indiana State. Versus 24th-ranked Illinois State, she added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals. Voss paces the Missouri Valley Conference in field goal percentage, shooting 55.6 percent.
To qualify for Prairie Farms/Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing. In addition to the academic qualifications, student-athletes will be evaluated on their athletic performance for a one-week period.
