
Women's Basketball Wins 11th Straight

OMAHA, Neb. ? Creighton captured its 11th straight victory on Saturday afternoon with a 66-53 decision over Southern Illinois at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. The win gives Creighton its longest Missouri Valley Conference winning streak in school history. Kelsey Woodard led all scorers with 18 and Kristina Voss added a season-high 17 points for the Bluejays.
Creighton (16-8, 11-2 MVC) raced out to a 20-point lead, holding SIU (7-15, 3-10 MVC) to just eight points through the first 14 minutes of the game. The Bluejays led 28-8 at that point and owned a 22-point lead in the first half before heading to the locker room up 42-22 at the half.
The Bluejays forced 10 first-half turnovers and owned a 12-3 advantage in points off turnovers at the break, while CU out-scored SIU 22-6 in the paint in the first half.
Creighton maintained its double-digit lead throughout the second half, as the Salukis could get no closer than 12 in the Bluejay victory.
Woodard drained 4-of-8 three-pointers and went 7-of-15 from the field for her game-high 18 points. Voss was 8-for-12 from the field and scored a season-high 17 points in just 25 minutes.
Megan Neuvirth led all players with 11 rebounds and Chevelle Herring topped the team with six assists. Kelsey Crites filled up the stat sheet with nine rebounds, six points, five assists and four steals.
The Bluejays had a season-low eight turnovers and out-rebounded the Salukis 43-40. CU hit 7-of-20 three-pointers, while nine of SIU's 19 field goals were three-pointers, as the Salukis shot 9-of-20 from long range.
Kaci Bailey, who hit all four of her three-pointers, led SIU with 14 points. Alex Hart added three threes and finished with 11 points for the Salukis.
The 11 straight wins mark a school record for Valley play, while the 1991-92 team won 12 straight conference games as a member of the Western Athletic Conference (WAC).
The Bluejays play their final road games of the year next weekend at Bradley and Northern Iowa. Creighton will aim to add to its winning streak when it plays at Bradley on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
