ST. LOUIS, Mo. ? On the heels of her 20-point second-half performance Sunday at Wichita State, Creighton women's basketball forward Megan Neuvirth has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week for the second time this season. Neuvirth led the Bluejays in scoring, rebounding, assists and blocked shots last week as Creighton pushed its winning streak to nine with a pair of road wins.
On Friday night, Neuvirth poured in 15 points and led the Bluejays with eight rebounds and five assists in helping the Bluejays defeat Missouri State 74-61.
Her offensive explosion at Wichita State helped the Bluejays overcome a halftime deficit to top the Shockers 49-47. She led all players with 24 points, with 20 coming in the second half. The junior went 9-of-17 from the field, 2-of-4 from three-point range and hit 4-of-5 free throws. She topped the team with nine boards and added two assists, two blocked shots and two steals in the win.
For the week she averaged 19.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and a blocked shot per game.
Creighton has now won nine straight for its longest winning streak since the 2001-02 team won 10 straight.
The Bluejays are 14-8 overall, 9-2 in the MVC, and play five of their final seven games at home. CU will look to add to its winning streak when it plays host to Evansville (9-13, 2-9 MVC) on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
