The Sycamores took the lead in the bottom of the third as Joe Meggs led off the inning with a single. He advanced to second off a Pascual del Real bunt, and went to third on a Jonas Dufek wild pitch. Meggs would score when Burnam singled to center.
ISU put a rally together in the fifth as del Real tripled to left center with one out. The lead became 4-1 as Strausborger hit a two-run home run to left field.
In the seventh the Sycamores added even more insurance, as runners were on the corners with just one out. Burnam then sent a double down the left field line, scoring both runners, and putting the lead at 6-1.
The Jays put a late inning rally together as Roemmich doubled down the left field line putting runners at second and third with no one out in the top of the eighth. After Nick Becker grounded out to the pitcher, Jimmy Swift walked to load the bases. Scott Thornburg followed with single to bring home Cafaro. Ian Dike then came in as a pinch hitter and lifted a sacrifice fly to left, bringing in Roemmich. At the end of eight it was 6-3 in favor of Indiana State.
