Creighton scored the first six points of the game while
KU's lead ballooned to 20 points in the second half, as the home team led 46-26 just three minutes after halftime. The Bluejays, who were 20-5 in the previous 25 games entering Monday night, never backed down, clawing their way back within single digits. Megan Neuvirth's two free-throws with 7:10 left in the game made the score 64-55 in favor of KU. CU would get within nine on three more occasions down the stretch, but could never get closer in the season-ending loss.
While four Bluejays scored in double figures, KU had a trio of players carry the load in the victory. First-team All-Big 12 guard Danielle McCray led everyone with 25 points and 13 rebounds, while Aishah Sutherland came off the bench to pour in a career-high 15 points and 12 boards. Morris finished with 21 points in the win for KU.
Woodard led the Jays with 15 points, making 4-of-7 three-pointers. Neuvirth finished with 13 points, but went just 3-for-17 from the field, including 0-for-7 from three-point range. She did go 7-of-9 from the free-throw line along with her six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
Kristina Voss had 12 points and six rebounds in her 124th and final career game. Kelsey Crites chipped in 10 points and nine rebounds for the Jays.
KU out-rebounded the Jays 42-36 and out-scored the Jays 48-22 in the paint and 13-2 in fast break points. The 79 points 54.1 field-goal percentage by the Jayhawks were both season-highs for a Bluejay opponent. While CU did shoot 43.3 percent in the second half and out-scored the Jayhawks in the second half, but KU made 62.1 percent of its shots after the half.
Creighton, which was appearing in its fifth WNIT in the last seven year, concludes the season at 22-12. The Bluejays finished in second place in the Missouri Valley Conference at 14-4 and lose just Voss from this year's playing rotation. The 2009-10 Bluejays will also get a boost by having Sam Schuett return to the lineup as CU will be in search of its third straight 20-win campaign next season.
NOTES: CU is now 12-6 all-time in the WNIT, including 6-3 on the road ... Voss played in her 124th game, tying Angie Janis for third in a Bluejay career ... Neuvirth finished the season with a school record 325 rebounds, tied for eighth in a season in MVC history ... Neuvirth will enter her senior season tied with Christy Neneman for sixth in CU history with 211 steals ... Woodard's 88 three-pointers this year rank fourth in school history, while she now has 140 career trifectas to rank eighth in school history heading into her junior year ... CU senior Michelle Kaus, who played just three games this year because of a torn ACL, will not return to the Bluejays for a fifth year next year to focus on her nursing degree.
