Baseball Third Baseman Jimmy Swift Named MVC State Farm Player of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton baseball player Jimmy Swift has been named State Farm MVC Player of the Week for the week of March 30.
Swift, a sophomore, has been the hottest hitter for the Bluejays over the last week, as he went 9-18, to bump his overall average to .349, good for third on the team. In the team's five games last week, he registered a team-high two doubles, a home run, five RBI and seven runs. He also swiped two bases on Saturday in game one of the doubleheader, his first two stolen bases in 2009. On the season he now has eight doubles, which tie Robbie Knight for the team-lead.
Swift's performance helped the team to go 4-1 on the week, and record its first sweep of the season, taking three from Southern Illinois. It is the team's first sweep since taking all three games from Indiana State last season, May 9-11.
The team will play its first game at Rosenblatt Stadium on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. against Kansas State. The game will be televised on NET and CBS College Sports.
