Korver & Sitzmann Named to MVC Scholar-Athlete Team

ST. LOUIS, Mo. ? Two members of the Creighton men's basketball team have been named to the Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete Second Team. Guards Kaleb Korver and Dustin Sitzmann were both honored for their work in the classroom on Thursday.

The awards are voted on by league sports information directors and require student-athletes to be at least a sophomore academically and athletically while owning a GPA of 3.00 or better to be nominated.

Korver is a sophomore guard from Pella, Iowa. The Business major owns a 3.377 GPA. Korver has played in all 31 games, including two starts, this season while averaging 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. Korver currently ranks third in the MVC with his 46.3 percent shooting from three-point range. Korver was a member of the Creighton University Dean's List last year as well as a member of the MVC's Academic Honor Roll.

Sitzmann is a fifth-year senior guard from LeMars, Iowa, who owns a 3.886 GPA in Exercise Science. He has played in 14 games, all as a reserve, and owns seven points and one rebound this season. He was previously named Prairie Farms/MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week on Nov. 26, 2008 and is a three-time selection to the MVC Academic Honor Roll. A member of the Dean's List every year at Creighton, Sitzmann is also a three-time recipient of the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award. Sitzmann plans to attend medical school next fall.

Evansville's Jason Holsinger and Southern Illinois' Bryan Mullins shared the league's Prairie Farms MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Both men are senior guards who were recently named Academic All-Americans. Joining them on the first team were Drake's Josh Young and Brent Heemskerk, as well as UNI's Adam Koch.

Korver and Sitzmann are joined on the second team by Drake's Jonathan Cox, Missouri State's Will Creekmore, Bradley's Sam Maniscalco and Illinois State's Dinma Odiakosa.

The honorable-mention squad consists of Indiana State's Aaron Carter, Missouri State's Ryan Jehle, Drake's Adam Templeton and Evansville's Pieter van Tongeren.
