OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton senior guard Booker Woodfox has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-District first team. The teams are voted on by member coaches of the NABC and represent some of the finest basketball players across the country.
The 240 student‐athletes, from 24 districts which were realigned this season, are now eligible for the State Farm Coaches' Division I All‐America teams to be announced on Saturday, April 4, at Hoop City in the COBO Center at 10 a.m. as part of the 2009 NABC Convention in Detroit.
Second Team
Woodfox earned his spot on the District 16 first team, where he was joined by Northern Iowa's Adam Koch, Evansville's Shy Ely, Bradley's Theron Wilson and Illinois State's Osiris Eldridge. The second team consisted of Northern Iowa's Kwadzo Ahelegbe, Illinois State's Champ Oguchi, Southern Illinois' Bryan Mullins and Drake teammates Josh Young and Jonathan Cox. The 10 schools in District 16 mirror the same membership of the Missouri Valley Conference.
Woodfox, who earlier today picked up his Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year honors, leads Creighton in points per game (15.9), three-point percentage (50.9 percent), three-pointers made (83), field goals made (154) and free-throw percentage (88.8 percent). The Lewisville, Texas, native is CU's first player to be named to the NABC's first-team All-District since Nate Funk in 2007. CU's other past first-team all-district choices were Kyle Korver (2003), Rodney Buford (1999), Bob Harstad (1991), John C. Johnson (1979), Rick Apke (1978) and Paul Silas (1964).
Creighton returns to action on Friday in quarterfinal round action of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. The Jays will take on Wichita State at 6 pm.
