
Darin Ruf Named ESPN the Magazine / CoSIDA Academic All-American

OMAHA, Neb. - Darin Ruf was named to the third-team ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA All-American list, Tuesday afternoon. Ruf finished his four-year career at Creighton with a 3.51 GPA in finance.
This season Ruf had a .303 batting average and led the team with 51 RBI, and had a .997 fielding percentage in 642 chances, committing just two errors in that span.
Darin finished his college career as one of the most decorated players in Bluejay history. He is the all-time leader in sacrifice flies (22) and putouts (2251), just 34 shy of the all-time NCAA record set by Logan Sorenson of Wichita State from 2001-04 when he had 2,289 putout. Other notable accomplishments Ruf had during his CU career were being second in RBI (201), third in total bases (423) and hits (275), sixth in walks (135), seventh in doubles (57) and 10th in home runs (27).
He was named MVC Player of the Year in 2007, and was named to the second-team all-MVC this season, a year after earning first-team honors in 2008.
Ruf was one of five MVC honorees receiving the award, as Brady Shoemaker of Indiana State, Ben Carlson (Missouri State), Grant Escue (Bradley) and Buddy Baumann (Missouri State) all also earned the distinction.
To be eligible for Academic All-America? consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
