
Illinois Volleyball Sweeps Texas Tech at Bluejay Invite

OMAHA, Neb. -- Tenth-ranked Illinois needed just 78 minutes to finish off Texas Tech in Saturday morning action at the Bluejay Invitational. Scores of the match in favor of the Illini were 25-20, 25-15, 25-11.
Illinois is now 1-0 while Texas Tech dropped to 0-2 under first-year coach Trish Knight.
Preseason all-Big Ten selections Michelle Bartsch and Laura DeBruler proved to be too much for Tech to stop. Bartsch had 15 kills and hit .560, while DeBruler had 14 kills to go with five aces for the Illini. Illinois libero Ashley Edinger added to her school-record dig total with a match-high 17.
Texas Tech was led by Amanda Dowdy, who had a team-best seven kills and two aces.
Illinois hit .420 and finished with 50 kills, eight aces, 43 digs and five blocks. Texas Tech had 19 kills, two aces, 19 digs and seven blocks while hitting .118.
Illinois will play host Creighton on Saturday evening at 7 pm to close out play in the Bluejay Invitational.
