OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton center Kenny Lawson Jr. has been named to the 2010 National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District Team. Lawson, a junior from Oceanside, Calif., is a second-team District 16 selection.
The District 16 First Team nearly mirrors the five-man all-Missouri Valley Conference selections. The all-District 16 First Team consists of Drake's Josh Young, Wichita State's Clevin Hannah, Illinois State's Osiris Eldridge and the UNI tandem of Adam Koch and Jordan Eglseder.
Joining Lawson on the NABC District 16 Second Team is UNI's Kwadzo Ahelegebe, Bradley's Sam Maniscalco, Illinois State's Dinma Odiakosa and Missouri State's Kyle Weems.
Lawson has had a breakthrough season in which he is leading Creighton in scoring (13.1 ppg.), rebounding (6.8 rpg.), blocked shots (1.4 bpg.) and shooting percentage (54.9 percent). He was also named to the MVC's All-Defensive Team for a second straight season.
Last year Creighton was represented on the NABC All-District Teams by first-teamer Booker Woodfox. That made Woodfox Creighton's first-team all-district choice since Kyle Korver in 2003.
The all-district teams are voted on by member coaches of the NABC. The 240 student-athletes listed, from 24 districts, are eligible for the State Farm Division I All-America Teams that will be announced on April 3rd at the Final Four.
