Women's Crew Falls To Tulsa at Lawless Cup

CATOOSA, Okla. - The Creighton Women's Crew team earned a victory in the Varsity 4+ A race, but it was all Tulsa after that. The Golden Hurricane earned the other six victories Sunday morning at the fifth annual Lawless Cup Regatta on the Verdigris River at the J. Bird Sr. Shell Nest.
The Creighton Varsity 4+ A squad won its race by just under 11 seconds with a time of 8:52.19. The regatta was well in hand by that point as Tulsa won the prior five races.
The Novice 8+ race led off the morning, as Tulsa took a 23.45 second victory with a time of 8:22.89. The Bluejays captured second in the Varsity 8+ race, sandwiched between the Tulsa A and B teams.
Two Novice 4+ races went Tulsa's way before Creighton's victory. The Hurricane 4+ B team topped Creighton's with a time of 9:33.28 and duplicated the win in the 4+A with a 9:47.97 finish.
Tulsa, the sixth ranked team in the South Region, capped off its Lawless Cup win with a Lightweight 4+ A victory, with a time of 9:16.87.
The Jays will wrap up its 2010 campaign next Saturday in Topeka, Kan., at the Great Plains Rowing Championships.
