OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton University has scheduled a 10:30 a.m. (CST) press conference on Tuesday morning to announce the hiring of Greg McDermott as the school's new men's basketball coach. The press conference will include McDermott, Director of Athletics Bruce Rasmussen and President the Rev. John P. Schlegel, S.J., and take place on the basketball court of D.J. Sokol Arena in the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center (701 Florence Boulevard).
McDermott spent the previous four seasons as head coach at Iowa State and replaces Dana Altman, who was announced as head coach at Oregon earlier on Monday.
A native of Cascade, Iowa, McDermott owns a 149-131 record in nine seasons on the Division I sidelines, including four years at Iowa State (2006-10) and five years at Northern Iowa (2001-06). He has a 280-195 career mark in 16 seasons as a head coach, which includes five trips to the NCAA Tournament and previous head coaching stops at Wayne State (Neb.) and North Dakota State.
McDermott, 45, was born Nov. 25, 1964. He and his wife, Theresa, have three children: Nick (20), Doug (18) and Sydney (9). Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The public is invited to attend the newsconference, and will be allowed to sit in the stands. Floor seating will be restricted to working media members and special guests.
