OMAHA, Neb. - All Trever Adams needed for his third home run of Friday's game with Seattle was about five more feet.
Adams' shot in the ninth, which would have tied the game, was caught on the left field warning track, as Seattle (9-34) made an early 4-0 lead stand for a 6-4 victory over Creighton (22-20) at Rosenblatt Stadium.
Adams accounted for three of the four Bluejay runs, as he homered in the third and eighth innings, marking his second two-home run game of the season. He finished the game 3-for-5 with two runs and three RBI, having a hand in all but one of the Bluejay runs.
Seattle starter Evan Evasick (2-9) pitched into the eighth inning, as he struck out seven to earn his second win of the season. Bryan Dalton pitched the final two innings for his fourth save of 2010.
The Bluejays (22-21) tried to rally in the eighth off Evasick in the eighth, as Adams started the frame with his second home run of the night. Two singles from T.J. Roemmich and Carson Vitale chased Evasick from the game, as the Redhawks (9-34) brought Dalton in.
Dalton limited the damage with a walk and a sacrifice fly by Ian Dike, before retiring the final two Bluejay batters with strikeouts, and getting the final three outs in the ninth, surviving Adams' near-miss.
Jonas Dufek (7-3) took the loss for Creighton, lasting only three innings - his shortest start since March 3 of last year - while allowing six earned runs.
Seattle produced throughout its lineup as Doug Buser had three hits and scored two runs, while Bryndon Ecklund posted two hits and four RBI. Nate Roberts also posted three hits, as the Redhawks tallied 13 off Bluejay pitching.
Seattle jumped on the Jays with four runs in the first two innings. Buser lined a triple to the right-center gap on the second pitch of the game, and scored on an Ecklund groundout for a 1-0 Redhawk lead after one.
The Redhawks batted around in the second, scoring three runs. Nick Latta delivered a two-run single through the left side with the bases loaded to put the Hawks up 3-0. Two consecutive walks by Dufek, the second an RBI free pass to Josh Kalalau, made it a 4-0 Hawks advantage.
Adams' two-run home run in the third cut the SU lead in half, but the Redhawks wasted no time in getting the runs back. An Ecklund double plated Buser after his lead-off single in the fourth, and Steve Kirbach brought Ecklund in from third with a two-out single to push the Seattle lead up to 6-2 before the Adams home run in the eighth for CU.
Creighton and Seattle will resume its three-game set tomorrow at the CU Sports Complex. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
