
Volleyball Falls in Four To Lipscomb

OMAHA, Neb. -- Despite a career-high 11 kills from Karisa Almgren, the Creighton Volleyball team fell in four sets to Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon in action at the Bluejay Invitational. Scores of the match in favor of the Lady Bisons were 20-25, 25-22, 28-26 and 25-21.
The teams split the first two sets before Lipscomb grabbed momentum of the match with a third-set comeback.
With Creighton leading 14-13, a string of 13 straight sideouts left the match tied at 20. Creighton led 24-22 before a a Katie Rose kill. With another set point opportunity at 24-23, Alicia Runge was stuffed by Kelsey Neumann. Creighton would then withstand a Lady Bisons set point opportunities at 25-24 and 26-25 before a kill from Kayce Green and another solo stuff from Neumann gave Lipscomb the 2-1 lead in the match.
The fuorth set was also a nailbiter much of the way, with the score tied at 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. With Creighton leading 19-18, Lipscomb embarked on a 6-0 run to get to match point. Creighton saved two match points, but a kill from Green finished the contest.
Creighton was paced by double-doubles from Allie Oelke (13 kills, 25 digs) and Megan Bober (46 assists, 11 digs). In addition to Almgren's career-best 11 kills, Runge rung up a personal best with 19 kills. Creighton hit .198 and had six aces, 82 digs, 10 blocks and 55 kills.
Lipscomb was paced by 19 kills and 22 digs from Alex Kelly. Green had 15 kills while Meghan Hinemeyer totaled 11 kills and eight digs. Jake Pease also recorded a double-double with 51 assists and 14 digs. Lipscomb hit .220 and had 62 kills, six aces, 83 digs and eight blocks.
In action earlier on Saturday, Kansas swept San Francisco.
The tournament concludes tonight with two matches. At 5:30 pm, Lipscomb tangles with San Francisco. The finale pits Kansas and Creighton in a 7:30 contest.
NOTES: Savannah Smith made her first career start and had four kills and three blocks ... Creighton had just eight serving errors after having 21 miscues on Friday night ... Lipscomb went 28-4 last season and won the Atlantic Sun Tournament and regular-season titles.
