The Coaches
Creighton is coached by Kirsten Bernthal Booth (Truman State, 1997), who owns a 121-92 record in her eighth season with the Bluejays. She became the program's all-time winningest coach on Aug. 25, 2007 with a 3-0 win over Stephen F. Austin and joined the 100-win club with an Oct. 31, 2008 win at Drake.
Booth came to Creighton after going 112-41 in three years at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A native of Lincoln, Neb., Booth played volleyball at Truman State, where she was named conference MVP, an Academic All-American and Missouri's 1997 NCAA Woman of the Year. She ranked third in Division II history with 6,077 assists when she graduated.
Booth is helped by assistant coaches Tom Mendoza and Angie Oxley Behrens and volunteer assistant Amanda (Gates) Sjuts.
Saint Louis is coached by Anne Kordes, who is 128-64 in her seventh season with the Billikens. She is assisted by Kyle Walton and Angela Powers.
Iowa is coached by Sharon Dingman, who is 30-37 in her third year with the Hawkeyes, and 366-249 in 20 years overall as a head coach. Dingman is assisted by Jason Allen and Ben Boldt.
Wake Forest is coached by Heather Kahl Holmes, who is 71-88 in her sixth season with the Demon Deacons. She is assisted by Jennifer Adeva and Chad Willis.
Series History vs. Saint Louis
Creighton is 1-3 all-time against Saint Louis, with Creighton's only win coming in Murfreesboro, Tenn., in 2006.
The teams faced off last November, a 3-0 sweep in Omaha for the Billikens.
Kirsten Bernthal Booth is 1-1 against Saint Louis and coach Anne Kordes.
Series History vs. Iowa
Creighton and Iowa have split two previous meetings. Creighton won in three sets in Iowa City in 2004, only to fall in four seats in Omaha in 2006.
Kirsten Bernthal Booth is 1-1 all-time against Iowa. Booth has won five straight head-to-head meetings with Sharon Dingman dating back to Dingman's tenure at Illinois State, and is 5-9 overall against her.
Series History vs. Wake Forest
Creighton has never met Wake Forest. Kirsten Bernthal Booth has never coached against Heather Kahl Holmes.
Booth Got Start At Iowa
Creighton head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth earned her Master's degree in higher education administration with an emphasis in athletic administration from Iowa in 2000.
Booth enrolled at Iowa in the fall of 1997 and served as a volunteer coach with the Hawkeye program under former coach Linda Schoenstedt. When Schoenstedt left following the season, Booth served as interim head coach for Iowa in March and April of 1998 before Rita Buck-Crockett was hired.
Booth stayed in the area after graduation, leading Kirkwood Community College to a 120-41 record from 2000-02.
Regular-Season Tournament History
Creighton is 49-61 in the 37 regular-season tournaments it has participated in all-time, including a 1-2 mark this year. Kirsten Bernthal Booth's teams are 30-28 in 21 regular-season tournaments, including five titles.
The last tournament title came Sept. 9-10, 2006, when CU won the Blue Raider Bash hosted by Middle Tennessee with wins over Saint Louis, Miami (Ohio) and Middle Tennessee.
Creighton had won just two of 16 regular-season tournaments prior to Booth's arrival.
Opposites Attract
When Creighton meets Iowa, it'll feature a match-up of contrasting offensive styles.
Creighton has leaned heavily on its pin hitters, as Alicia Runge, Allie Oelke and Karisa Almgren have combined for 129 of Creighton's 182 kills (70.9 percent), while middles Laurel Sanford, Savannah Smith and Heather Thorson account for just 35 kills (19.2 percent). Creighton's pin hitters hit .181, while the middle hitters have hit .137.
Iowa on the other hand, is led by its middles. Becky Walters, Mallory Husz and Chante' Thompson own 80 of Iowa's 156 kills (51.3 percent) and hit a collective .351. Iowa's pin hitters Megan Eskew, Rachael Bedell, Tiffany Nilges and Allison Straumann have combined for 69 kills (44.2 percent) and hit .094 as a group.
My Town
The trip to St. Louis will mark a return home for Bluejay sophomore DS Brooke Boggs. Boggs hails from Wildwood, Mo., and attended Lafayette High School.
Since Creighton restarted volleyball in 1994, she is the only player to have graduated from a Missouri high school and play for the Jays.
Among the team's scheduled activities this weekend is a meal on Friday at the Boggs residence.
Welcoming The Huskers To Campus, Again
Tuesday marked Nebraska volleyball's first visit the Creighton campus since 1980, when the Huskers swept a best-of-three contest at Kiewit Center.
Since then, Creighton had twice hosted its in-state rival, but both of those matches took place at Qwest Center Omaha.
Crowd Control
Tuesday night's crowd of 2,514 fans was the fourth-largest home crowd in program history for Tuesday's match vs. Nebraska, and was the first sellout at D.J. Sokol Arena.
Previously, the largest crowd at D.J. Sokol Arena had been the 2,285 that saw Creighton host Texas Tech last year on Aug. 28, 2009.
Below are Creighton's largest home volleyball crowds all-time. The top three crowds took place at Qwest Center Omaha.

Mandolfo Digs Deep
Freshman DS Julianne Mandolfo had a strong first weekend as a Bluejay, averaging 3.25 digs per set while also serving two aces. She then had 10 digs on Tuesday vs. No. 7 Nebraska.
Mandolfo's 13 digs in her debut vs. San Francisco were third-most in school history, and tops of any non-libero.
On Saturday, she had 16 digs and two aces vs. Lipscomb, then followed that up with 10 digs vs. Kansas.
Mandolfo is just the second player in Creighton history to start her Bluejay career with four or more matches with 10 or more digs. Former libero Bianca Rivera did so in the first 27 matches of the 2007 season.
Mandolfo is the only freshman in the MVC with 10 or more digs in every match this season.
Runge Named To All-Tourney Team
Alicia Runge was Creighton's top offensive weapon all weekend at the Bluejay Invitational, and that excellence was rewarded with a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Runge led Creighton in kills during all three matches, including 18 vs. San Francisco and 19 versus Lipscomb. Both of those matches eclipsed her 2009 high of 17 kills in a contest.
Runge was joined on the All-Tournament Team by San Francisco's Joan Caloiaro, Lipscomb's Jake Pease and Alex Kelly, and the Kansas tandem of Allison Mayfield and Karina Garlington. Garlington was named tournament MVP.
Runge also led Creighton with 10 kills on Tuesday vs. Nebraska.
Almgren All Over
Junior Karisa Almgren had a breakthrough weekend at the Bluejay Invitational, posting 25 kills and nine blocks on .250 hitting in 60 swings.
Compare that to her first two years with the Bluejays, when Almgren amassed 18 total kills and nine total blocks.
Almgren's top offensive match of the weekend saw her claim single-match career highs with 11 kills and five blocks vs. Lipscomb.
Thunder Of Thorson
Karisa Almgren wasn't the only Bluejay that stepped up last weekend, as sophomore Heather Thorson also showed off her improved skills.
Thorson averaged 1.58 kills per set as well as a team-high 1.50 blocks per set during the Bluejay Invitational. That includes a career-best nine kills vs. Kansas on Saturday night.
Thorson finished the weekend with 19 kills and 18 blocks after posting 29 kills and 22 blocks her entire freshman campaign.
Service Without A Smile
Creighton's serving woes in Friday night's opener left the home crowd groaning, as the Jays had just one ace to go with 21 serving errors in a four-set win.
The 21 errors were second-most since Creighton's 1994 reinstatement, trailing only a night with 25 serving errors at Wichita State in 2004.
Record Watch
Allie Oelke enters this weekend ranking eighth in Creighton history with 978 career digs. That makes her 22 digs away from becoming the eighth Bluejay to reach 1,000.
If Oelke can duplicate the 379 digs she had last year, she'll finish second in school history in career digs.
Oelke also ranks sixth in Creighton history with 31 career double-doubles, including two in the opening weekend. All but four of those double-doubles have come against Missouri Valley Conference competition.
Below is a list of the quickest players in Creighton history to reach 1,000 career digs. Oelke enters Friday night having played in 93 career matches.

Last Year Summary
Creighton went 14-17 last year but managed to finish tied for fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference with a 10-8 league record.
Senior Jessica Houts ranked 12th nationally with 1.44 blocks per set and earned a spot on the all-Valley First Team for a second straight season. The stellar blocking of Houts as well as Laurel Sanford (1.30 bps.) and Megan Bober (0.93) helped Creighton rank third nationally in blocks per set.
The 2009 season saw Creighton move into a new on-campus home, D.J. Sokol Arena inside the Wayne and Eileen Ryan Athletic Center, as the program hosted the State Farm MVC Tournament for the first time.
Hello World!
Three of the 16 players on Creighton's 2010 team have still never played a point at the Division I level. Freshmen Brianne Fliss, Natalie Hackbarth and Lexi Malm could all make their Division I debut this weekend. Below is the current Creighton players and how they performed in their regular-season collegiate debuts.
Since 2000, the only true freshmen to start CU's season-opener have been Brittany Coleman (2003), Carolyn Decker (2004), Korie Lebeda (2005), Allie Oelke (2007), Brooke Boggs (2009), Heather Thorson (2009) and Julianne Mandolfo (2010).

Bloemke Out With Injury
Fifth-year senior MB Lauren Bloemke will miss the 2010 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee during the final week of July. Bloemke had surgery on the knee on August 17th.
Bloemke, who missed most of last season after tearing the ACL in her left knee in the spring of 2009, will remain involved with the program as a student assistant coach and remains on pace to graduate in the spring.
Bloemke ranks 19th in school history with 478 career kills and ninth in both career block assists (218) and career total blocks (254).
Bober's The Best At Blocking
Last season Creighton setter Megan Bober had 107 blocks, easily the most ever in one year by a Creighton setter. In doing so, she became the first player in Creighton history to have both 100 blocks and 100 assists in the same season.
In fact, Bober's 0.93 blocks per set led the country among setters, and she was the nation's only player to average at least 0.9 blocks and 7.5 assists per set.
She's off to a quick start as a sophomore, averaging 1.07 blocks per set. She led CU in blocks against both San Francisco and Kansas last weekend.
Taking The Fifth
Creighton is 21-11 in five-set matches under Kirsten Bernthal Booth. That's impressive since Creighton had never finished a season with a winning record in fifth sets prior to Booth's arrival.

Creighton also plays on the road at No. 24 Northern Iowa as well as votegetters Saint Louis, Wichita State and Missouri State.
Preseason MVC Poll
Creighton has been picked fourth in a preseason poll of Missouri Valley Conference coaches. Defending regular-season champion Northern Iowa was the unanimous pick to win the league, with Missouri State and Wichita State second and third. Creighton fourth and Drake fifth.
