
Women's Basketball Falls 66-55 at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. - For the seventh straight season, the Creighton women's basketball team found themselves on the losing end of a battle with Nebraska, dropping a 66-55 final in Lincoln on Thursday night. The Bluejays finished with 21 turnovers, with Nebraska capitalizing and scoring 28 points off those turnovers. Carli Tritz led the Bluejays with 17 points, the lone Jay to score double-digits on the day.
Points were hard to come by in the opening half, as the Bluejays found themselves in an early 4-0 hole. Tritz' three-pointer two minutes into the game gave Creighton its first points of the night. A layup by Taylor Johnson lay-in and Alexis Akin-Otiko jumper gave Creighton a 7-6 lead with 14:49 to play.
An exchange of buckets followed by another layup by Tritz gave Creighton an 11-8 lead with 11:01 in the half, Creighton's largest lead of the game. The Huskers then went on an 8-0 run to extend their lead to five at the second media timeout.
The two teams again then went on back-to-back runs, with Nebraska going into the halftime break with a 26-22 lead. Tritz led all scorers with 11 points in the opening half, pulling down three boards as well. Johnson added five points while Akin-Otiko came off the bench to pull down three boards as well.
The second half followed suit, as the Bluejays put up the opening points, pulled even at 28-28 and 30-30, but the Huskers then went on a 9-2 run to lead 39-32 with just over 14 minutes to play in the game. Pressure by Lindsey Moore and offensive power from Jordan Hooper extended Nebraska's lead to 13 points with just over four minutes to play.
Creighton kept battling, as Alyssa Kamphaus made a layup and Jordan Garrison dropped a three-pointer, but Nebraska finished the game with pressure defense to post the 11 point win in front of their home crowd.
Jordan Hooper led the Huskers with 22 points, while Emily Cady (13), Lindsey Moore (12) and Kaitlyn Burke (10) all finished in double-digits for the Huskers.
Tritz dropped 17 points, pulling down four boards, while Sarah Nelson led the Bluejays with seven rebounds and added seven points. Ally Jensen and Johnson each added eight points in the losing effort.
The Bluejays will take the week off for finals this week and will be back in action on Sunday, December 18 when they host Bowling Green at D.J. Sokol Arena. Tipoff is set for 1:05 pm.
