Adams Goes In 16th Round To Texas In MLB Draft

OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton University outfielder Trever Adams was selected in the 16th round, No. 504 overall, in the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Texas Rangers earlier today.
Adams becomes Creighton's 14th selection in the MLB draft in the eight years with Ed Servais as head coach, and second of the day. Earlier on Tuesday, Adams' Bluejay teammate Jonas Dufek was selected by Houston in the ninth round of the draft (No. 280 overall). The draft, which started on Monday, will wrap up on Wednesday.
Adams is the fifth former Bluejay since 2006 to join the Rangers organization, joining Adam Schaecher (2006), Chris Gradoville (2007), Vicente Cafaro (2009) and Carson Vitale (2010).
Adams became Creighton's first outfielder to be named first-team all-MVC since 2000 and was one of the MVC's most feared sluggers in 2011.
Named a third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball last Thursday, Adams led Creighton in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.387), slugging percentage (.665), on-base percentage (.467), runs (46), hits (89), RBI (57), triples (4), home runs (14), total bases (153), walks (28) and stolen bases (15). In the Missouri Valley Conference, he ranked first in home runs and slugging percentage, second in hits and total bases, third in batting average, fourth in RBI, fifth in on-base percentage and sixth in triples.
Creighton finished the season 45-16 and became the first team in program history to sweep the MVC regular-season and Tournament titles in the same season.
