Bahamas Blog Day Seven
8/17/2011 4:00:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Creighton men's basketball team departed for the Bahamas on the morning of Aug. 11, where they will play four games before returning on Aug. 17. While away from Omaha, sports information director Rob Anderson, video coordinator Nathan Wieseler and graduate manager Brian Kooienga plan to keep those who couldn't make the trip informed on the various activities with a daily diary, video and photos.
August 17, 2011 (Day Seven)
What a week it's been! After six great days in the Bahamas, today marked our final few hours here before starting our voyage home.
Other than eating, nothing was on the agenda until 1:15 pm, when our ride back to the airport was scheduled. For the last tme, we all piled in two small shuttle buses, while a third vehicle took all the luggage.
We got the airport, unloaded, and had to fill out a few different forms for customs and declarations. We had arrived three hours early as a precaution (we'd HATE to have to stay an extra day), but only needed about 90 minutes to get through the lines.
We're scheduled to fly from Nassau to Dallas this afternoon, before flying from Dallas to Omaha late tonight, arriving at 11:10 am. I'm not sure who's going to be happiest to have the team return home, the guys, or their cell phone providers. Being in the Bahamas has rendered the guys cell phones basically useless, which I think has done a great deal toward team bonding and leaving "Omaha" behind them while away. Hopefully, these blogs, videos and photos have done a good job of helping you keep up with the team while we've been away.
I will say one of the funnier moments of the trip happened earlier today at lunch. After grabbing his soup and plate of food, 6-foot-11 center Geoffrey Groselle was walking to a table when he hit his head on a low-hanging chandelier. He dropped his bowl of soup, shattering it and sending soup all over the marble floor. Within seconds, a worker appeared from out of nowhere with a dustpan to help scoop up the broken dishes and help pick up some of the chunks of soup that were splattered about. After a minute of clean-up, the lady went to the back to empty the dustpan and grab a mop. In the 30 seconds she was away, Ross Ferrarini (who had witnessed Groselle's spill), was walking back to grab more food to eat, taking that same path, and took a spill himself on the slick floor. It was reminiscent of an old cartoon where there's a chase scene and someone slips on a banana peel (like this YouTube video).
We're about to board our plane in Nassau, and don't have time right now to connect some pictures to this blog. Not to worry though, we have posted our day seven photo album.
Hopefully we'll have a final video with some more highlights added tomorrow sometime
Go Jays!
