Gibbs Earns MVC Newcomer of the Week Award

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- For the third time in four weeks, Creighton men's basketball guard Grant Gibbs has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. He was previously honored on Dec. 28th and Jan. 9th.
A junior from Marion, Iowa, Gibbs helped Creighton to a 3-0 week while scoring in double-figures in all three games. He averaged 10.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game while also shooting 50 percent from the floor and 75 percent at the line.
He began his week with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists in a three-point win over UNI on Tuesday.
On Friday at Illinois State, Gibbs earned his first career double-double when he had 10 assists and tied his career-high with 12 points. He added seven rebounds in the victory.
On Sunday in a win over Southern Illinois, Gibbs had 10 points, five rebounds and a pair of assists.
Creighton (16-2, 6-1 MVC) returns to action on Wednesday with a 7:05 pm game at Missouri State.
