Doug McDermott Named to Naismith Trophy Watch List

OMAHA, Neb. -- The Atlanta Tip-Off Club has named Creighton University forward Doug McDermott to the 50-person preseason watch list for the 2013-14 Naismith Trophy presented by AT&T.
McDermott has been one of four finalists for the award each of the last two seasons.
The 50-player watch list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the previous year and expectations for the 2013-2014 college basketball season. The Naismith Men's College Player of the Year presented by AT&T will be awarded during the Final Four.
Being named to the Naismith Trophy Watch List is the latest in a long line of preseason acclaim for the Bluejay senior. In addition to being named the Preseason BIG EAST Player of the Year, McDermott has also been named a Preseason First Team All-American by the Associated Press, Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook, CBSSports.com, NBCSports.com and Sporting News. McDermott is also one of 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award and one of 15 on the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List.
McDermott has been named on the Naismith Trophy Watch List each of the last two seasons as well.
McDermott, the lone returning First Team All-American from the 2012-13 season, averaged 23.2 points and 7.7 rebounds last season to lead Creighton to a 28-8 season a year ago. He led the country with 284 field goals and 834 points points while also shooting a school-record 49.0 percent from three-point range.
Through three games of his senior season, McDermott leads the BIG EAST Conference in scoring at 25.7 points per game. He is shooting 55.8 percent from the field, 53.3 percent from three-point range and 78.6 percent at the line. He hit his first career game-winner in CU's most recent game, an 83-79 win at Saint Joseph's, last Saturday.
McDermott and the Bluejays continue the 2013-14 season on Saturday with a 2:32 pm game against Tulsa.
