Sawle, Women's Cross Country Win; Men 2nd at Briar Cliff Invitational

SIOUX CITY, S.D. - Led by Courtney Sawle's victory and school-record finish, the Creighton women's cross country team placed first and the men finished second on Saturday at the Briar Cliff Invitational at Adams Nature Preserve in Souix City, S.D.
Creighton, Morningside, Iowa Western CC and Wayne State were among the 10 teams competing in this year's men's race, while the women's race featured a dozen schools.
Sawle finished first overall and set a Creighton school record in the women's 5k run with a time of 17:27, cruising to a 29-second victory in a field of 108 runners.
Maddie Ivy and Emily Peterson finished sixth and seventh, both recording a time of 18:29. Emily Mauser finished only seconds behind Ivy and Peterson by finishing eighth overall with a time of 18:31. Dayle Dickens finished 11th with a time of 18:44 to round out the top five for CU.
Garrett Kenyon finished first for the Bluejays by placing seventh overall with a 25:52 time in his 8k run. Pat Reinschmidt and Matt Piercy finished 11th and 12th by recording times of 26:06 and 26:12. Eric Klein's 26:16 time was enough to earn a 14th place finish overall. Ty Medd finished 23rd with a time of 26:27 to round out the men's top five.
Iowa Western's Sylvester Barus won the men's 8k run by posting a time of 24:52. Morningside earned team honors on the men's side.
The Bluejays will be back in action at the Bradley Classic on Oct. 17 in Peoria, Ill.
