Sawle's School-Record Paces Cross Country at Bradley Classic

PEORIA, Ill. - Led by Courtney Sawle's school-record finish, the Creighton women's cross country team finished 16th and the men placed 17th on Friday at the Bradley Classic at Newman Golf Course in Peoria, Ill.
Creighton, Nebraska, Missouri and Marquette were among the 26 teams competing in this year's men's race, while the women's race featured 30 schools.
Illinois claimed team honors on the women's side, while Illinois State finished first on the men's side.
Sawle finished 10th overall out of 294 runners and set a Creighton school record in the women's 6k run with a time of 21:24. Her performance comes on the heels of her record-setting 5k time of 17:27 last Saturday at the Briar Cliff Invitational.
Maddie Ivy finished second for the Bluejays by finishing 95th overall and posting a time of 22:25. Emily Mauser finished 111th overall with a time of 23:00. Emily Peterson finished 129th with a time of 23:06. Only seconds behind Peterson, Vanessa Miller finished 135th with a time of 23:08 to round out the top five for CU.
Garrett Kenyon finished first for the Bluejays by placing 19th out of 247 competitors with a 25:07 time in his 8k run. Pat Reinschmidt finished 65th overall by recording a time of 25:53. Eric Klein's 26:07 time was enough to earn a 93rd place finish overall. Drew Prescott finished fourth for the Bluejays by posting a time of 26:23 to earn a 115th place finish. Matt Piercy placed 128th and recorded a time of 26:30 to round out the men's top five.
Western Michigan's Maria McDaniel finished the women's 6K run first overall with a time of 20:41. Illinois State's Ryan Rutherford won the men's 8K event with a 24:21 time.
The Bluejays will be back in action at the BIG EAST Conference Championships on Oct. 31 at Northview Church in Carmel, Ind.
