OMAHA, Neb. -- Chevrolet, the Heartland Chevy Dealers, Military Warriors Support Foundation and Wells Fargo will honor one of our nation's combat wounded heroes on Friday, November 14, 2014. Sergeant Russell Herrera will be recognized as a Chevrolet Everyday Hero for his service and sacrifice to our country. He will be awarded his newly renovated, mortgage-free home, provided by Wells Fargo and located in Omaha, Nebraska, at the Creighton University men's basketball game against the University of Central Arkansas.
Sergeant Herrera joined the United States Marine Corp in July of 2007, out of respect for his family who served. Sergeant Herrera served in Camp Lejeune and Afghanistan. It was in Afghanistan that he sustained combat-related injuries. Now, he and his family live in Omaha, Nebraska.
During his time in the Marine Corps, Sergeant Herrera was awarded many medals for his bravery and service to this country including the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, Marine Corps Good Conduct Medal, Nato Metal-ISAF Afghanistan, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and more.
In the future, Sergeant Herrera plans to continue achieving success in the IT field and provide his family with a safe and secure place to live.
Sergeant Herrera has traveled the world and experienced physical and mental hardships, but his determination to fight for this nation is what makes him an “Everyday Hero.” To honor him and his family for their incredible sacrifices and patriotism, Chevrolet and the Heartland Chevy Dealers partnered with Creighton University to create this special night he will never forget.
“These are the types of things that we love to be a part of because it is important for us to be active contributors to our local communities.” said Dave Nottoli, Chevrolet Regional Director, South Central Region. “This event is about honoring one of our local heroes who has sacrificed so much to provide us our freedom. This is so big! It takes great partners like the Military Warriors Support Foundation, Wells Fargo and our local Chevy Dealership Group to help take care of this brave hero, tell his story and promote the Foundation so they can continue to help other veterans in need.”
