
No. 5 Men?s Soccer Falls 1-0 to No. 23 Friars in BIG EAST Semifinal

CHESTER, Pa. – The No. 5 Creighton men's soccer team fell 1-0 to No. 23 Providence in a BIG EAST Men's Soccer Championship semifinal at PPL Park on Friday evening.
After over 70 minutes without a score, PC's Fabio Machado scored the go-ahead goal on a pass from Julian Gressel the 73rd minute.
After the loss, top-seeded Creighton drops to 14-3-2 overall. No. 4 seed Providence improved to 12-4-2 overall with the win. The Friars will meet the winner of No. 2 seed Xavier and No. 3 seed Georgetown in Sunday's BIG EAST Championship match.
For the 18th time this season, Creighton held it opponent off of the scoreboard in the first half. The Bluejays led the Friars 7-5 in shots and 8-3 on corner kicks before halftime. Both teams posted two shots on goal in the half.
Junior Connor Sparrow played 90 minutes in net while making four saves for Creighton and moved to 14-3-2 on the year.
Creighton awaits an at-large selection to the NCAA Tournament. The NCAA Selection Show will be streamed live at noon CT via NCAA.com. NCAA tournament play begins with first-round matches on Thursday, Nov. 20 at campus sites.
