Scouting Georgetown (2-10)
Georgetown opened the season with two victories in its first three games, but the Hoyas have dropped their last nine games. Georgetown was on the verge of breaking that streak in its last game against St. Bonaventure (L, 70-64).
Preseason BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Dorothy Adomako has led the Hoyas this season with 131 points (10.9 ppg) and 89 rebounds (7.4 rpg).
The Hoyas have struggled away from home, droping all seven contests they have played.
Tuesday will be the first time that Georgetown will have left home since Dec. 9.
Keys to the Game w/Georgetown:
- Clean the glass: The Hoyas are a strong rebounding team, averaging 44.2 per game. Creighton has outrebounded its opposition at home and over the last five, but must continue that effort against the Hoyas.
- Take Care of the Ball: Georgetown forces 9.6 steals per game. Creighton, conversely, is one of the best teams in the country at taking care of the ball.
- Battle in the Post: While the Hoyas have a heighth advantage, Creighton's Brianna Rollerson is coming off her best game as a Bluejay with a double-double against Kansas.
Lamberty Does it Again, Records Fourth Straight BIG EAST Honor
Freshman Sydney Lamberty is starting to turn heads with her accomplishments, earning her fourth consecutive BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honor on Monday, Dec. 29.
Lamberty becomes the first player to be named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week for four consecutive weeks since 2011-12 (UCONN's Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis) after pushing the Bluejays to an 84-81 overtime win over Kansas on Monday. Lamberty scored 15 points and was credited with six rebounds and five assists against the Jayhawks. No two points were bigger than her game-winning layup in overtime with eight seconds left, blowing by her defender untouched for the go-ahead bucket. Creighton wrapped up non-conference play with a 7-5 record and a three-game winning streak.
Creighton has never had a player win three straight Freshman or Newcomer of the Week honors before.
McGrory Beats the Buzzer to Force Overtime
Trailing 70-67 to Kansas with just 3.6 seconds remaining in regulation, sophomore MC McGrory stamped her mark in Bluejay lore. The Minnesota native fielded a pass from Alexis Akin-Otiko near the Bluejays' free-throw line. With four dribbles she raced to the top of the key, elevated and just beat the buzzer with the equalizing trey.
Double-Doubler
Brianna Rollerson (16 pts & 13 rebs) and Alexis Akin-Otiko (13 pts & 10 rebs) became the first pair of Bluejays to post double-doubles in the same game since Megan Neuvirth and Sam Schuett did so on Jan. 24, 2010 against Northern Iowa.
Neuvirth and Schuett accomplished the feat twice as the duo also logged double-doubles against UNI in Cedar Falls on Feb. 3, 2007.
That's a Starting Five
While Rollerson and Akin-Otiko posted double-double, Creighton other three starters also reached double figures in the win over Kansas on Dec. 22. Janning led all scorers with 23 points, while Lamberty had 15 points and McGrory finished with 14.
The last time Creighton had five players finish with at least 10 points was its 79-50 win over Xavier on Jan. 15. Janning also led her troops in that contest with 29, Rollerson had 14. Sarah Nelson finished with 12, McKenzie Fujan had 11 and Akin-Otiko put up 10.
