Behind 21 points from Janning, Creighton WBB Downs Georgetown 76-61

OMAHA, Neb. - Marissa Janning led all scorers with 21 points as the Creighton women's basketball team dropped Georgetown, 76-61, on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 8-5 on the season and evened their BIG EAST record at 1-1. Georgetown, meanwhile, fell to 2-11 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
The game was a series of runs as Creighton opened the game with 10 of the first 12 points to lead 10-2 (14:40). Georgetown responded with seven straight to make it 10-9 (13:28).
The Bluejays took the next turn with a 21-2 run to build a 31-11 lead with 5:53 remaining in the opening period. Janning keyed Creighton's 21-2 explosion with 10 of her 16 first-half points, including a string of eight straight.
Leading 41-26 at the break, Georgetown opened the second half with a 20-2 run over its own as the Hoyas burst out in front 46-43 with 12:16 remaining in the game.
Sophomore MC McGrory rallied her troops with a 14-foot jumper to get the Bluejays back on track. After a defensive stop, freshman Sydney Lamberty converted a traditional three-point play on a layup and the ensuing free throw. Creighton went on score 13 of the next 15 points to reclaim control with a 56-48 edge (7:43).
The Bluejays did not take their foot off the gas the rest of the way, cruising to a 76-61 win.
All five Creighton starters finished in double figures: Janning (21), Lamberty (19), Brianna Rollerson (14), McGrory (12) and Alexis Akin-Otiko (10) for the second straight game.
