OMAHA, Neb. -- Kris Dunn had 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists to lead Providence to a 74-65 win in front of 17,640 fans at CenturyLink Center Omaha on Saturday night. The Friars win came during Creighton's fourth annual Pink Out as part of a nationwide Coaches vs. Cancer event that raised more than $16,000 for charity.
Providence improved to 14-5 overall and is second in the BIG EAST with a 4-2 league mark. Creighton fell to 9-10, 0-6 BIG EAST, falling under .500 for the first time since late in the 2009-10 season.
James Milliken had a game-high 22 points for CU, while Dunn paced three Friars in double-figures. Lending a supporting hand for PC was 18 points for LaDontae Henton and 13 more off the bench by Tyler Harris, while Carson Desrosiers had nine points, eight rebounds and six blocked shots.
Milliken started the game with a score, but CU would not lead again. The visitors scored the game's next 12 points and never looked back. CU would get within 18-17 with 6:23 left in the half before the Friars ended the frame on a 16-7 run that featured four three-pointers and pushed the lead to 34-24 at the break.
Creighton quickly trimmed the Providence lead to 37-33 after consecutive trifectas by Milliken and Rick Kreklow with 16:49 left, only to see PC respond with a back-breaking 10-0 run. The Jays eventually got within six points with 3:11 left, but Dunn hit a pair of jumpers to beat the shot clock and end any hopes of a Creighton rally.
Creighton returns to action with a pair of road games next week, beginning with Wednesday night's game at Butler.
