Volleyball Sweeps Providence For 11th Straight Win

Jays hit .370 in victory over Friars
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball won its 11th straight match with a 3-0 sweep of Providence on Friday night before 1,101 fans at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha. Scores of the match were 25-19, 25-15, 25-17.
Creighton improved to 16-7 on the year with the win, remaining in first place with a 10-0 BIG EAST record. Providence dropped to 10-14 (1-9 BIG EAST).
Creighton dominated all three frames, trailing for the only time all night at 3-2 in the third set.
Returning to a 6-2 offense with Kenzie Crawford and Ashley Jansen sharing the setting role, Creighton hit .222 in the first set. That figure grew to .407 in the second set before a .517 mark in the third and final set.
Jaali Winters led Creighton with 11 kills, adding eight digs on the evening. Just as they did earlier in the month in Rhode Island, Creighton's middles dominated the Friars. Marysa Wilkinson hit .571 in seven swings and served up a career-high three aces, while Lauren Smith had seven kills and hit .538 while finishing with four blocks.
Creighton finished with 44 kills, six aces, 41 digs and eight blocks on .370 hitting. Providence, by comparison, had 28 kills, one ace, 35 digs and two blocks on .116 hitting.
The Friars were paced by 12 kills from Kayla Fitzgerald, but none of those came after intermission. Michelle Cruz posted a match-high 11 digs for PC.
Creighton hosts St. John's on Sunday at 1 pm.
