
Creighton Hosts Providence in Pivotal Women's Soccer Match

Creighton Hosts Friars on Saturday
Series History: Creighton leads series, 2-0-0
Saturday will be the third time Providence and Creighton have met, all as BIG EAST Conference foes. The Bluejays took the first meeting at Providence in 2012 by a 3-2 score, while Creighton outlasted the Friars in double overtime last season at home 3-2.
Senior Day on Saturday:
Prior to kick-off, Creighton's six seniors – Kirstyn Corder, Alyssa Jara, Alissa Kohmetscher, Anastasia McCleary, Jill Richgels and Kyla Salazar – will be recognized.
This senior class helped lead Creighton into the BIG EAST Conference, guided the Bluejays to program-best seven-match win streak to open the 2014 season and welcomed Ross Paule back to Omaha for his first season as head coach.
Additionally, over the past four seasons the Bluejay have compiled double-digit win totals three times. Â
Corder has appeared in 51 matches for the Bluejays over three seasons, recording 13 goals. She has five game-winning goals in her Creighton career.
Jara has seen action in 70 contests, collecting 11 goals and seven asssits. This season she has three goals, including the game-winner in overtime at Seton Hall last Thursday.
Kohmetscher has played just under 5,000 minutes for the Bluejays (4,907) entering Saturday's game. The midfielder has fired 46 shots and has collected one goal to go with seven assists.
A transfer from Alabama State prior to last season, McCleary has seen time in 30 matches as a Bluejay, firing 13 shots and collecting two goals.
Richgel has seen the most time on the pitch with 5,363 minutes. She is tied for fifth in Bluejay history with 18 assists and also has four goals.
One of the Bluejays' captains, Salazar got her first action in the net earlier this season. She played nine minutes against Northern Illinois on Aug. 28.
Scouting Creighton (10-6-0, 2-3-0 BIG EAST)
After splitting a road weekend at Seton Hall (W, 3-2 in overtime) and at St. John's (L, 0-4), the Bluejays feel good about their position as Creighton controls its own destiny to reach the BIG EAST Championship.
Senior Alyssa Jara knocked home the golden goal against the Pirates, her third of the season, but it was junior Lauren Sullivan that set the play in motion by beating four Seton Hall defenders from midfield. Sullivan also scored the Bluejays first goal of the match.
Sullivan has shined in BIG EAST play, scoring seven points on three goals and an assist. She leads the Bluejays on the season with eight goals and 18 points (8G, 2 A).
Entering the season without a definite starter in the net, freshman Erin Scott grabbed the torch and has no intention of giving it up. Scott has delivered six clean sheets in 16 matches.
Scouting Providence (9-6-0, 2-3-0 BIG EAST)
The Friars will enters Saturday's game looking to continue a trend of alternating wins and losses. Providence has split its last eight matches, with a win coming after each loss. Providence fell in its last outing at Marquettte, 1-0, on Oct. 11.
Catherine Zimmerman and Rachel Ugolik lead the offensive charge for the Friars with a combined nine goals (Five for Zimmerman). Zimmerman is also tied for the team lead with three assists.
In goal the Friars have Kristyn Shea in net for the third consecutive season. Shea has allowed just 17 goals in 15 matches, recording five shutouts. Â
In BIG EAST play the Friars have scored four goals in five matches. Providence is 4-4-0 on the road this season.
