Women's Soccer Closes Season with 3-1 Loss at Georgetown

Bluejays Fall 3-1
Washington, D.C. - The Creighton women's soccer team closed out the 2015 season on Friday, Oct. 30 with a 3-1 loss at Georgetown.
Creighton fell to 10-10-0 and 2-7-0 in conference following the loss, while Georgetown clinched at least a bye into the BIG EAST Championship with an 11-5-2 overall mark and a 6-1-2 in BIG EAST Play.
The Hoyas struck for two goals in just 152 seconds midway through the first period as Melissa Downey converted a pass from Crystal Thomas into a one-on-one chance against Creighton goalkeeper Erin Scott. Downey fired a crossing shot from seven yards away as Scott attempted to close out in the 21st minutes.
Just two minutes later the duo of Downey and Thomas switched roles as Downey sent a pass through two defenders to set Thomas up for a one-on-one matchup with Scott. Thomas chipped a shot past Scott from 15 yards out to give Georgetown a 2-0 lead with 22:42 showing on the clock.
The 2-0 score held into the halftime break. Georgetown held a 5-3 edge in shots during the opening 45 minutes.
Creighton returned to the field following the break with renewed energy. The Bluejays were the aggressor for much of the second half, firing off nine shots in the period.
Despite Creighton's improved offensive effort, it was the Hoyas that delivered first as Rachel Corboz pushed the lead to 3-0 with a goal from 10 yards out. Thomas and Caitlin Farrell were each credited with an assist on the play.
Finally in the 89th minute the Bluejays got on the board as freshman Kaira Houser recovered a shot off the post by junior Lauren Sullivan to push in Creighton's first goal. Sullivan earned the assist via her shot off the post.
Bluejay freshman Erin Scott kept Creighton in the match with four saves, including three one-on-one chances for Georgetown. Scott closed the season with 108 saves, the second highest total in a single season in school history.
