Men's Basketball Announces Signing of Davion Mintz

Charlotte product should give Creighton backcourt great combo of size, skill
OMAHA, Neb. – Charlotte native Davion Mintz has signed a letter-of-intent with Creighton University, head men's basketball coach Greg McDermott announced on Thursday. Mintz is a 6-foot-4 point guard who attends North Mecklenburg High School in Huntersville, N.C.
"We are thrilled to add Davion to our basketball family," said McDermott. "His ability to impact the game with his scoring and passing ability is very impressive. Davion appreciates the importance of being able to manage a team from the point guard position. He was exactly what we were looking for in a point guard. Our fans will enjoy watching him play."
Mintz has been rated a three-star prospect by Rivals and also had offers from Tulsa, Miami (Fla.) and Kansas State.
In the classroom at North Mecklenburg, Mintz is an honor roll student. He is a member of the Top 100 Young Black High School Students of Charlotte, and has also been named an NC Boys State Delegate.
Athletically, Mintz is a two-time MECKA 8 Conference all-league pick and Lake Norman Weekly All-Area Team honoree. As a junior he was named to the All-Charlotte Observer Lake Norman Area team and picked up all-district honors. Mintz has also been named to All-Tournament Teams at the Leroy Holden Classic, the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions, the Arby's Classic, and the Statesville Record Landmark Tournament.
Mintz averaged 12.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game as a junior for a team that went 23-4 and was ranked No. 1 in the state after a 13-0 start. He averaged 9.3 points, 2.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game during his sophomore campaign.
Creighton opens the 2015-16 regular-season on Saturday with an 8:37 pm game vs. Texas Southern. The Bluejays feature two seniors on their current roster, including Siler City, N.C., native James Milliken.
