Bluejays tie a CenturyLink Center Omaha record with 61 first half points
OMAHA, Neb. -- Isaiah Zierden scored a career-high 24 points in 23 minutes to lead six players in double-figures as Creighton men's basketball topped UTSA, 103-78 on Tuesday night before 16,580 fans at CenturyLink Center Omaha. The Bluejays improved to 2-0 with the win heading into a showdown on Thursday at No. 14 Indiana.
The Bluejays (2-0) never trailed, tying a CenturyLink Center Omaha record with 61 points in the first half to match a facility record first set vs. Houston Baptist on Dec. 17, 2007.
Creighton led by as much as 32 (97-65) in the second half before settling for the 25-point win.
Ryan Bowie, a former standout at nearby Iowa Western CC, led the Roadrunners (0-3) with 23 points and 10 rebounds. He sank 5-of-7 three-pointers while playing 36 minutes. Nick Billingsley, an Omaha native who prepped at Central High School, played just 41 seconds for UTSA before being ejected with 15:28 left in the first half for a Flagrant 2 foul on Zierden.
Besides Zierden's 24 points, Cole Huff scored 17 points in 22 minutes, James Milliken had 12 points, and Maurice Watson Jr., Toby Hegner and Zach Hanson each scored 10. Malik Albert came off the bench to dish 10 assists and fellow reserve guard Tyler Clement scored a career-high eight points.
The Bluejays finished 35-for-64 (54.7 percent) from the floor while making 15-of-35 three-point attempts. Creighton outrebounded UTSA 34-32 and had 26 assists against just 12 turnovers.
UTSA shot 44.8 percent overall (26-58) and were 10-of-23 (43.5 percent) from deep. The Roadrunners finished with 13 assists and 18 turnovers. In addition to Bowie's big night, Gino Littles had 16 points and Nick Allen added 11.
Creighton returns to the court on Thursday at 6 pm Central when it visits No. 14 Indiana in the Gavitt Tipoff Games.
