NEW YORK --Â For the second-consecutive season, Creighton Men's Soccer's Fabian Herbers and Timo Pitter were named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and Midfielder of the Year, respectively. Joining Herbers and Pitter with all-conference honors were seniors Connor Sparrow and Vincent Keller, and freshman Joel Rydstrand.
Sparrow became the third keeper in program history to be named league Goalkeeper of the Year, joining Kevin Doyle (1992) and Brian Holt (2011).
After helping anchor the Bluejays' defense, Keller and Rydstrand earned All-BIG EAST First Team and All-Freshman Team honors, respectively. Rydstrand was a unanimous selection to the All-Freshman Team.
Herbers, who leads the BIG EAST in goals (14) and assists (12), is the first Creighton player to have exceeded the 40-point plateau in a single season since Mike Tranchilla in 2001. He has recorded a point in 17 of the Bluejays' 18 matches, and his 40 points lead all players in NCAA Division I. Herbers was unanimously selected as both Offensive Player of the Year and an All-First Team honoree.
Pitter, the Bluejays' second leading scorer, has tallied seven goals and three assists. Four of his seven goals were game-winners. With his game-winning goal at Butler on Oct. 14, Pitter moved into seventh-place on Creighton's all-time list for career goals (30) and ninth-place for career points (80), moving past former All-American and current Creighton women's soccer head coach, Ross Paule, on both lists.
This season marks the second-consecutive year Herbers and Pitter earned All-BIG EAST First Team honors.
Sparrow, Creighton's all-time leader for goals against average (0.55) and win percentage (.800), earned eight clean sheets this season en route to helping the Bluejays to a second-place finish in the BIG EAST. Creighton began the season with 15 consecutive wins, the program's best start in more than two decades.
Keller has assisted four of the Bluejays' BIG EAST-leading 41 goals. Creighton's leader for minutes played over the past four season (6,566), Keller was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week three times this season.
Rydstrand has recorded two goals and two assists this season, including the game-winning goal at Marquette on Oct. 17. Subsequently, he was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, and the following week earned BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors.
