Baseball is on the Bus to Butler for Weekend Series
4/23/2015 5:24:00 PM | Baseball
OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton Baseball team boarded the bus at 7 am as the Bluejays hit the road for a crucial BIG EAST series at Butler this weekend.
Butler's weekend rotation is a continual sea of southpaws as Jeff Schank, Peter Nyznyk and Nick Morton try to keep the opponents off balance.
The trio of starter have been as effective as their placement would suggest with Schank posted the second best ERA on the team at 3.07. Nyznyk comes into the weekend at 4.56, while Morton has a 6.83 ERA.
On the base paths the Bulldogs have two primary threats in Houston (10 stolen bases in 12 attempts) and Drew Small (8-of-12).
Defensively Butler averages a little over one error per contest with 49 mishaps in 38 games for a fielding average of .967
Scouting the Bluejays (2015: 22-11, 6-2 BIG EAST)
After splitting a pair of games with St. John's last weekend, the Bluejays will look to return to the winning ways that Creighton has become accustomed to in BIG EAST play (20-6 over two seasons).
A key for the Bluejays is leadoff hitter Daniel Woodrow. Woody tied a school record with three stolen bases on Tuesday. That speed has helped the sophomore become a thorn in opponents side this season.
A bat that Creighton must get going is junior Reagan Fowler. The reigning Co-BIG EAST Player of the Year has struggled over the past 10 games with six hits in his last 32 at-bats (.188).
Creighton, however, has shined on the mound in conference play as the Bluejays have seen a weekend starter collect the BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week award in consecutive weeks. Last weekend freshman Rollie Lacy tossed a complete game for the Bluejays.

Welcome Back, Rogalla
Creighton fans, players and coaches may have had the Welcome Back Kotter tune running through their heads on Tuesday night as senior Jack Rogalla took the field at TD Ameritrade for the first time.
The Bluejays opening day starter and projected ace of the Creighton staff, Rogalla has been sidelined since the second week of the season with an elbow issue. Tuesday night he pitched to two batters without any pain.
The Servais Bunch
Here's the story of a man named Ed Servais, who wanted to get some work for his bullpen (music fading).
Staked to a 5-0 early against Omaha on Tuesday, Servais was able to do just that as 10 different Creighton hurlers went to the hill in the Bluejays' 8-2 win.
The 10 pitchers used in one game is tied for the sixth most in a single game in NCAA history and the most since Texas Tech used 11 pitchers against Howard Payne on May 14, 2004.
Three's Company for Woodrow
Sophomore Daniel Woodrow tied a Creighton record for most stolen bases in a game when he swiped three against Omaha on April 21. The last time a Bluejay recorded three stolen bases in a game was Chase Odenreider against South Dakota State on March 15, 2005.
Diff'rent Strokes
Baseball is unquestionably a game where the superstitious thrive. While Creighton has not yet found a rally monkey, or a goat for that matter, Bluejay assistant coach Rich Wallace may have a new healthy habit. Coach Wallace has the Bluejays dropping just one game in 2015 when he goes for a run prior to the game. By his calculations Creighton is 11-1 when he does so. Be sure he'll be off to the races in Indy.
